Chapter 5 - The Medical Record

Ryan stared at my sister, his mouth hanging open in sheer disbelief.

"You only wanted my money?" Ryan gasped, sounding genuinely heartbroken.

My sister rolled her eyes, looking at him as if he were the most pathetic creature on earth.

"Did you honestly think I loved you?" she sneered.

"You are an aging, unemployed loser who had to steal from babies to buy my affection."

The crowd erupted into chaotic murmurs again, watching the happy couple tear each other apart.

Ryan's face turned bright red, his sadness instantly transforming into pure, toxic rage.

"Well, you are stuck with me now, sweetheart," Ryan spat back at her.

"Because no one else is going to take care of you and the baby you are carrying!"

My sister suddenly went completely rigid, her arrogant expression faltering for the first time.

I felt a sudden, terrible pang in my chest at the mention of her pregnancy.

It was the ultimate insult, knowing she was carrying his child while I was still grieving the baby I lost.

But then, a woman in a sleek black dress stepped out from the back pews and walked purposefully down the aisle.

It was Sarah, Ryan's former secretary.

"There is no baby, Ryan," Sarah announced loudly, holding up a large manila envelope.

My sister let out a terrified shriek and lunged forward, trying to grab the envelope from Sarah's hands.

My father stepped in between them, blocking my sister effortlessly.

Sarah pulled a stack of official medical documents from the envelope and handed them directly to Ryan.

"What is this?" Ryan asked, his hands shaking as he read the top page.

"Your lovely bride visited a private fertility clinic last month," Sarah explained with a tight smile.

"She is completely infertile, Ryan."

My sister collapsed to her knees, sobbing hysterically into her wedding gown.

"She has been faking the pregnancy for the last three months just to force you to marry her quickly," Sarah revealed.

Ryan dropped the papers on the floor, staring at the woman he had destroyed his family for.

"You lied to me?" Ryan screamed, his fists clenched at his sides.

"You made me leave my pregnant wife for a fake baby?"

My sister looked up at him with a vicious, venomous smile.

"Don't act like a saint, Ryan," she hissed maliciously.

"I know exactly what you put in Annie's prenatal vitamins the week she lost her baby."
