Chapter 6 - The Brother From the Shadows

I stared at the man standing in front of me, my mind completely fracturing.

Julian looked like a mirror reflection that had just walked out of the glass.

He stood with a quiet, dangerous confidence that made the air in the hallway feel thin.

I demanded to know who he was and what kind of sick joke this was.

Julian did not smile as he casually reached into his jacket pocket.

He pulled out an old, faded birth certificate and handed it to me.

It bore my mother's signature and listed two male infants born on my exact birthday.

He explained that our mother had decided she only wanted one heir to the family fortune.

She gave Julian away to a wealthy family in Europe and paid them to keep him hidden forever.

I looked at Grace, but she seemed just as terrified as I was.

Julian turned his attention to Grace and his cold eyes softened instantly.

He asked her if she had forgotten the rainy night in Chicago three and a half years ago.

Grace's face turned completely white.

Julian reminded her of a charity gala where we had an argument and I had supposedly stormed out.

He said he had watched me leave and decided to take my place for the rest of the evening.

He had slipped into our hotel room in the dark, pretending to be me.

Grace backed away until she hit the wall, her breathing ragged.

She realized she had conceived the triplets that night, believing she was making up with her husband.

I felt a murderous rage boiling in my blood.

I lunged at Julian, grabbing him by the collar of his expensive suit.

I slammed him against the hospital wall, ready to beat him to death.

Julian didn't even flinch.

He calmly told me that if I killed him, my son would die tonight.

He looked over my shoulder at the doctor standing frozen nearby.

Julian announced that his bone marrow would be a perfect match for the boy.
