Chapter 3 - The Ghost Vault

Mathis gripped the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white.
Nicolas had completely flipped the narrative, turning the entire country's police force into his own personal hunting dogs.
"He wants the police to find us so his men can intercept the transport," Mathis realized aloud.
Elise pointed toward a dilapidated underground parking garage near the edge of the district.
"Drive in there," she instructed.
Mathis hid the stolen van in the darkest corner of the third sub-level.
They abandoned the vehicle and walked deeper into the labyrinth of concrete pillars.
Elise led him to a rusted storage locker unit secured with a heavy duty padlock.
She punched a code into the electronic keypad, and the heavy metal door slid upward.
Inside, there was no furniture, only a single black duffel bag resting on a wooden crate.
She unzipped the bag, revealing stacks of euros and a tarnished brass key.
"Your father gave me this key the day he handed me the notarial document," she explained.
"It belongs to a private ghost vault in Zurich, one that Nicolas knows absolutely nothing about."
Mathis stared at the key, realizing his father had orchestrated a massive contingency plan.
He reached out to touch the brass key.

A sudden, sharp red dot appeared on the back of his hand.
Before he could react, a silenced bullet shattered the wooden crate right between his fingers.
