Chapter 9 - The Takedown

Mark's entire body weight crashed heavily into my rebuilt knee, sending a searing spike of pain up my spine.

I gritted my teeth, completely ignoring the intense agony, and allowed my momentum to carry me forward.

I grabbed Mark by the lapels of his expensive suit and violently flipped him entirely over my shoulder.

He crashed hard into the solid wooden evidence table, groaning loudly as the breath was completely knocked out of his lungs.

My father panicked at the sudden violence and raised the revolver, pointing it directly at my chest.

He squeezed his eyes tightly shut and pulled the heavy metal trigger.

I dove aggressively to the left just as the deafening gunshot rang out in the enclosed courtroom.

The bullet grazed the fabric of my dress uniform jacket, completely missing my flesh by a fraction of an inch.

Before he could pull the trigger a second time, I closed the remaining distance and grabbed his wrist.

I executed a flawless, brutal martial arts disarm, twisting his arm sharply until he dropped the weapon.

I swept his legs out from under him, and he collapsed heavily onto the courtroom floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

I kicked the revolver far out of reach and placed my heavy boot firmly on Mark's chest to keep him pinned.

The courthouse bailiffs finally rushed into the room with their weapons drawn, quickly placing both men in heavy steel handcuffs.

I stood up slowly, brushing the dust off my uniform, breathing heavily but completely unharmed.

Judge Simmons emerged cautiously from behind his heavy wooden bench, looking at me with profound awe and gratitude.

Just as the bailiffs were leading my parents away, the main doors of the courtroom burst violently open.

The corrupt Chief of Police marched into the room flanked by half a dozen heavily armed SWAT officers.

He pointed a commanding finger directly at me and loudly ordered his men to arrest me for the brutal assault of his deputy.
