Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

The heavy and aggressive banging against the metal door grew increasingly more violent.

"Did the local police somehow find us already?" I asked while grabbing a sharp surgical scalpel for defense.

"Those are definitely not police officers, because they do not announce themselves like that," Doc stated grimly.

He reached carefully under a medical cabinet and pulled out a heavy tactical shotgun.

"Ethan must have put a massive underground bounty on our heads to find us," Sarah realized in sheer horror.

The crucial upload progress bar on Sarah's laptop was painfully crawling at exactly ninety percent.

"We just deeply need to stall them for exactly two more minutes," Sarah shouted over the terrible noise.

The highly reinforced hinges of the steel door began to buckle under the immense force from outside.

Doc pumped the heavy shotgun and aimed it squarely at the exact center of the shaking door.

"Get safely behind the concrete pillar and completely protect the patient!" Doc ordered us bravely.

I stood fiercely over Maya’s bed and fully prepared to fight to the absolute death for her.

With an incredibly ear-splitting crash, the heavy metal door was completely ripped off its hinges.

Four heavily armed professional mercenaries stepped eagerly into the clinic with their weapons raised high.

"Take the pregnant girl completely alive and kill absolutely everybody else," the lead mercenary commanded coldly.

Doc fired a massive warning shot into the ceiling that instantly showered them in thick plaster dust.

"The very next shot goes right through your chest," Doc warned them with a totally steady voice.

The mercenaries hesitated for a highly crucial second, momentarily distracted by the loud blast.

Sarah's laptop finally chimed with a loud and beautiful digital dinging sound.

"The massive upload is entirely complete and the files are officially public!" Sarah announced triumphantly.

Every major news network in the country had just received irrefutable proof of Ethan’s massive financial crimes.

They also openly received the horrific audio recordings of Beatrice heavily bribing judges and ordering violent assaults.

Suddenly, a massive chorus of blaring police sirens flooded the dark alleyway outside the clinic.

Bright red and blue lights brilliantly illuminated the dusty room through the broken doorway.

The real police had finally arrived, and this time, they were definitely not on Ethan’s payroll.

"Drop your weapons and get entirely on the ground immediately!" heavily armored SWAT officers yelled from outside.

The hired mercenaries realized they were completely surrounded and slowly lowered their heavy guns.

Officers rushed eagerly in and aggressively slammed the hired thugs onto the cold floor.

A serious police captain walked calmly into the clinic and looked directly at me.

"Eleanor Sterling, you are no longer a suspect in this kidnapping investigation," the captain stated firmly.

"We just officially arrested Ethan and Beatrice at their home based on the evidence you bravely leaked," he informed me.

I instantly dropped the surgical scalpel and finally let out a massive sigh of pure relief.

The horrible nightmare was finally coming to an end, but I deeply needed to see Ethan in handcuffs to truly believe it.

"I strictly need to go to the station and watch him get locked in a cell," I told Sarah with cold determination.

Maya gently squeezed my hand from her hospital bed and gave me a weak but incredibly brave smile.

"Go proudly finish this for us, Mom," Maya whispered with amazing newfound strength in her eyes.
