Chapter 7 - The Hostage

Marcus smiled coldly through the thick, blinding white smoke, his heavy assault rifle aimed perfectly at my chest.

Daniel screamed in pure, unadulterated terror, violently scrambling backward until his back hit the cold steel wall of the van.

"Shut up, Daniel, before I officially put a bullet in your pathetic knee," Marcus growled aggressively.

I completely refused to cower or show a single ounce of fear, keeping my posture entirely rigid.

"You just aggressively murdered federal agents, Marcus," I stated smoothly.

"The FBI will literally hunt you completely to the ends of the earth."

Marcus let out a harsh, incredibly grating laugh, entirely stepping fully into the ruined back of the van.

"The FBI currently thinks a rival cartel violently ambushed this transport," Marcus sneered aggressively.

"Vanguard is actively paying off heavily placed officials to completely bury this entire incident."

He reached out and violently grabbed my arm, aggressively yanking me completely out of the smoking van.

"Hey, leave her alone!" Daniel yelled weakly, trying to stand up, but completely failing due to absolute panic.

Marcus casually backhanded Daniel across the face with his heavy tactical glove, entirely dropping him back to the metal floor.

"You stay completely in there, Daniel," Marcus ordered coldly.

"Victoria Vance actively wants to deeply question your mother about the hidden deeds."

He aggressively dragged me forcefully toward a sleek, black, unmarked SUV waiting entirely in the dark shadows of the abandoned highway.

Two massive Vanguard mercenaries heavily shoved me entirely into the backseat, locking the doors securely.

Marcus climbed entirely into the driver's seat and aggressively sped away, entirely leaving Daniel trapped inside the smoking federal van.

We drove entirely in total, suffocating silence for exactly thirty agonizing minutes.

I tried to actively memorize the exact turns we were making, but the heavy tinted windows made it absolutely impossible to see outside.

They finally pulled aggressively into a massive, heavily guarded underground parking garage.

I was violently pulled completely out of the vehicle and aggressively escorted into a private, luxurious executive elevator.

The doors opened perfectly onto the top floor of a massive, sleek skyscraper in downtown Columbus.

They heavily pushed me entirely into a massive corner office overlooking the beautiful city skyline.

Victoria Vance was actively sitting behind a massive glass desk, looking entirely pristine and utterly dangerous.

"Welcome to Vanguard headquarters, Rachel," Victoria smiled coldly, gesturing aggressively to a leather chair.

"Please, completely take a seat."

I remained absolutely standing, glaring intensely directly into her terrifying eyes.

"You are completely insane if you actually think you can actively kidnap a federal witness and get away with it," I stated firmly.

Victoria laughed softly, entirely standing up and walking slowly toward me.

"I can completely do absolutely whatever I want, Rachel, because I actively own the people who make the laws."

She stopped entirely just inches away from my face.

"I aggressively need the original, signed deed to your massive property, Rachel."

"The fake one your pathetic son signed is completely useless in federal court."

I smiled, a cold, utterly defiant expression that clearly completely enraged her.

"I will absolutely never sign that deed over to you," I promised aggressively.

Victoria sighed heavily, acting entirely like I was just a completely annoying, stubborn child.

"I was actively hoping we could entirely do this the easy way, Rachel."

She entirely pulled a small, sleek remote from her expensive pocket and pressed a single button.

A massive flat-screen television on the wall instantly flared to life.

The live, high-definition video feed showed a small, completely dark room.

Sitting entirely in a hard metal chair, heavily bound with thick ropes, was my neighbor, Helen.

"Helen!" I gasped loudly, all of my fierce, protective armor completely shattering in an instant.

May you like

"If you don't officially sign the deed right now, Rachel," Victoria whispered entirely coldly.

"My heavily armed men will aggressively torture your sweet, innocent neighbor until she completely begs for death."
