Chapter 3 - The Stolen Fortune

I woke up hours later with a massive, throbbing headache and found myself locked inside the back seat of a moving squad car. The heavy rain battered aggressively against the tinted windows as we drove far away from the bright city lights. I realized with sheer panic that Cousin Ray was absolutely not taking me to the official downtown police station. Ray glanced at me through the rearview mirror and flashed a highly sickening, incredibly greedy smile. I demanded to know exactly how much dirty money my mother was secretly paying him to completely ruin my entire life. Ray laughed loudly and corrected me, stating that the massive payout was actually coming entirely from my own personal bank account. I stared at the back of his head in complete and utter confusion, knowing perfectly well that I merely managed a humble hardware store. Ray happily explained that my late father had secretly left me a massive, untouchable trust fund worth over ten million dollars. My mother had intentionally kept this massive fortune a complete secret from me so she could systematically drain it completely dry. The final legal clause of the trust fund required me to have a living biological heir before the remaining millions were fully unlocked. My mother desperately needed my pregnant wife to deliver the baby so she could formally seize absolute control of the entire estate. I violently kicked the thick metal cage separating the front and back seats, screaming with uncontrollable, pure rage. I swore to Ray that I would legally destroy both of them the exact second I broke out of these tight steel handcuffs. Ray casually unholstered his heavy police weapon and strictly told me that escaping was absolutely not part of their brilliant plan. He coldly explained that he was driving me to a deserted highway bridge where I would tragically drown in a terrible, fiery car accident. I frantically scanned the dark interior of the police vehicle for any possible weapon or desperate means of escape. I noticed that the heavy plastic partition separating us was slightly loose on the left side near the reinforced window. I braced my heavy work boots against the cracked plastic panel and pushed with every remaining ounce of absolute adrenaline in my body. The thick plastic suddenly snapped off its metal hinges, creating a small but highly crucial opening directly between us. Before Ray could aim his deadly weapon, I reached blindly through the gap and violently yanked the steering wheel completely to the right.
