Chapter 9 - The Decoy

The blinding spotlight pinned me aggressively against the freezing metal wall of the empty transport van.
Four heavily armed mercenaries, wearing dark tactical gear, stepped confidently out of the swirling, bitter snow.
The corrupt doctor stood proudly on the rusted warehouse catwalk, smiling wickedly as his deadly trap perfectly snapped shut.
"Daniel pays me an incredibly generous salary to ensure all his pathetic, annoying problems permanently disappear," the doctor sneered arrogantly.
I gripping the heavy tire iron tightly, completely refusing to show them an ounce of crippling fear.
"Where is my daughter, you psychotic monster?" I screamed furiously into the freezing, relentless wind.
The doctor laughed loudly, a cruel and heartless sound that echoed violently across the frozen concrete pier.
"Emily is perfectly safe, heavily sedated in the trunk of a completely different vehicle on her way to a private airfield," he revealed.
"Once we eliminate you right here, she will be flown to an offshore clinic and permanently committed to a psychiatric ward."
My heart shattered into a million pieces, realizing I had blindly chased a calculated, brilliant decoy.
The mercenaries aggressively raised their suppressed automatic rifles, aiming the laser sights directly at my chest.
I closed my eyes, praying that Marcus and Vance would somehow find a way to save Emily after I was gone.
Suddenly, the deafening sound of a massive helicopter engine violently shattered the quiet, snowy night.
A sleek, black tactical chopper emerged aggressively from the dark storm clouds, hovering directly over the frozen pier.
Blinding police spotlights flooded the entire industrial yard, completely washing out the doctor's pathetic single beam.
"This is the Federal Bureau of Investigation, drop your weapons immediately!" a booming voice commanded over a massive loudspeaker.
The mercenaries panicked wildly, scattering like terrified cockroaches toward the dark, rusted shipping containers.
Federal snipers positioned inside the hovering helicopter fired incredibly precise warning shots, blowing massive holes in the concrete near their feet.
The armed men instantly dropped their heavy weapons, falling aggressively to their knees with their hands raised high.
The corrupt doctor tried to desperately sprint across the icy catwalk to escape into the dark warehouse.
He violently slipped on a patch of frozen black ice, tumbling aggressively down the steep metal stairs and breaking his leg.
Dozens of heavily armed federal agents swarmed the pier, aggressively securing the violent suspects in heavy zip ties.
Marcus walked confidently out of the command vehicle, looking incredibly smug in his expensive, tailored wool coat.
"You didn't really think I would let you face a heavily armed cartel doctor all by yourself, did you?" Marcus asked warmly.
I dropped the heavy tire iron, rushing forward to aggressively hug my brilliant, fiercely loyal attorney.
"He said Emily is in a different car heading toward a private airfield," I sobbed frantically, pulling away from the embrace.
Marcus smiled brightly, holding up his glowing cell phone for me to clearly see the screen.
"Vance already intercepted the secondary vehicle ten minutes ago using the GPS tracker he secretly slipped into her hospital bracelet," Marcus explained.

"Emily is completely safe, wide awake, and waiting for you right now at the secure FBI field office."
I fell aggressively to my knees in the freezing snow, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated relief and profound joy.
