Chapter 8 - The Corrupt Doctor

I sprinted aggressively out of the hospital, dialing Marcus's phone number before I even reached my frozen SUV.
"The corrupt doctor just kidnapped Emily from the hospital, and he wants a full hostage exchange for Daniel," I yelled frantically.
Marcus swore loudly on the other end of the secure, encrypted line.
"The police have Daniel in a federal holding cell, Rebecca, which means we cannot legally negotiate his release," Marcus explained grimly.
"We absolutely have to track down that medical transport van before the corrupt doctor makes good on his deadly threat."
Vance, the brilliant private investigator, jumped aggressively onto the urgent conference call.
"I just pulled the hospital's security footage from the rear loading dock," Vance announced rapidly.
"The doctor loaded Emily into a white, unmarked transport van with a stolen license plate."
I slammed my foot aggressively on the gas pedal, tearing out of the hospital parking lot with my tires violently screeching.
"Track his personal cell phone, track anything you possibly can!" I pleaded desperately.
"He completely disabled his GPS, but he made a massive, incredibly stupid mistake," Vance replied confidently.
"He used his electronic hospital badge to exit the parking garage, which gave me the exact make and model of the van."
Vance quickly tapped into the city's massive network of automated traffic cameras to desperately hunt for the vehicle.
"I have him on a live camera feed heading north on Interstate 85," Vance shouted triumphantly.
"He is driving aggressively toward the abandoned industrial shipyards near the frozen river."
I merged violently onto the dark highway, pushing my heavy SUV well past the dangerous speed limit.
The freezing January snow began falling heavily again, drastically reducing visibility on the treacherous, icy roads.
I didn't care about the immense danger; I was absolutely going to save my daughter or die trying.
I finally reached the desolate, rusted gates of the abandoned industrial shipyard.
The white, unmarked van was parked quietly near the edge of a massive, frozen concrete pier.
I aggressively parked my SUV blocking the only exit, grabbing a heavy tire iron from my emergency trunk kit.
I crept silently through the dark, swirling snow, gripping the freezing metal weapon tightly in my bare hands.
The back doors of the transport van were completely wide open, exposing the dark interior to the freezing wind.
I leaped courageously inside, fully prepared to aggressively strike the corrupt doctor and save my child.
The van was completely and entirely empty.
There was no doctor, no medical equipment, and absolutely no sign of my terrified daughter.
A bright, blinding spotlight suddenly clicked on from the roof of a rusted warehouse directly above me.
"You are incredibly predictable, Rebecca," the corrupt doctor yelled confidently through a heavy electronic megaphone.
May you like
"I intentionally led you directly to this location so I could finally eliminate the only person standing in our way."
I heard the distinct, terrifying sound of heavily armed mercenaries emerging quietly from the dark shadows all around me.
