Chapter 6 - The Balcony Trap

Patricia casually waved at me through the thick, frost-covered glass of the penthouse balcony door.
The freezing January wind violently whipped my hair across my face as the temperature plummeted below zero.
I aggressively rattled the metal door handle, but it was completely and hopelessly jammed from the inside.
Patricia laughed silently, holding up a small, sleek suppressed pistol for me to clearly see.
She wasn't just Daniel's cruel mother; she was the brutal, calculating mastermind behind this entire deadly operation.
I looked frantically over the edge of the glass railing, realizing a forty-story drop was my only alternative to freezing to death.
Inside the apartment, Daniel aggressively kicked down the locked bedroom door to find my terrified sister.
I could see Evelyn screaming and crying as Daniel ruthlessly dragged her out of the closet by her expensive hair.
He forced her to sit at the modern glass dining table, slamming a blank legal document directly in front of her.
Patricia pointed the suppressed gun directly at Evelyn's head, aggressively forcing a pen into her trembling hand.
They were forcing my sister to notarize a completely new power of attorney document to bypass the frozen trust funds.
If she signed that paper, Daniel would have full, unrestricted access to the offshore accounts before the police even breached the building.
I desperately looked around the freezing, barren balcony for anything I could use to shatter the reinforced glass door.
There was a heavy, solid iron planter sitting quietly in the corner, filled with dead, frozen winter soil.
I gripped the freezing metal with both hands, using every single ounce of my remaining strength to lift it off the ground.
My muscles screamed in pure agony, but the thought of Emily lying in that hospital bed gave me supernatural adrenaline.
I swung the heavy iron planter violently backward and smashed it aggressively into the center of the glass door.
The reinforced glass spider-webbed massively, but it stubbornly refused to completely shatter.
Patricia spun around in absolute shock, momentarily distracted from holding the gun to Evelyn's terrified head.
Evelyn used that tiny fraction of a second to aggressively shove the heavy glass table directly into Patricia's knees.
The older woman collapsed heavily to the floor, dropping the sleek pistol onto the expensive Persian rug.
Daniel roared in pure fury, lunging aggressively toward Evelyn to stop her from escaping.
I swung the heavy iron planter a second time, smashing it violently through the weakened, spider-webbed glass.
The door shattered into a million tiny, glittering pieces, raining sharp glass wildly across the living room floor.
I dove courageously through the broken frame, tackling Daniel forcefully to the ground before he could reach the fallen gun.
We wrestled brutally on the floor, surrounded by shattered glass and absolute, chaotic violence.
He was much stronger than me, aggressively pinning my arms down with his heavy, suffocating weight.
"You really should have minded your own pathetic business, Rebecca," he hissed, wrapping his hands tightly around my bruised throat.
Black spots began dancing wildly in my vision as the precious oxygen was aggressively cut off from my lungs.
Suddenly, a massive, deafening gunshot echoed violently through the entire penthouse apartment.
Daniel's heavy grip instantly loosened, and he collapsed limply onto the floor right beside me.

I gasped aggressively for air, coughing violently as I looked up to see who had fired the weapon.
Evelyn was standing there, shaking uncontrollably, holding Patricia's smoking pistol in her trembling hands.
