Chapter 8 - The Abandoned Warehouse

I pressed my gun directly against Marcus's kneecap and promised to shatter it if he lied to me.
He frantically spat out the address of the abandoned warehouse where Mia had been living.
I left Marcus bleeding on the laboratory floor and drove my damaged car toward the industrial district.
The warehouse was a massive, decaying structure sitting isolated near the edge of the dark river.
I parked three blocks away and approached the silent building strictly on foot to avoid detection.
I slipped inside through a rusted side door and immediately took cover behind a stack of wooden crates.
The massive interior space was illuminated by a single, harsh halogen work light dangling from the ceiling.
Evelyn was tied tightly to a metal chair directly in the center of the dusty concrete floor.
Mia was bravely standing in front of Evelyn, holding the baby tightly to protect her new family.
Five heavily armed mercenaries stood in a circle around them with their automatic weapons raised.
I calculated the terrifying odds and knew I could not possibly kill all five men before they returned fire.
I slowly unscrewed the silencer from my pistol and aimed directly at the heavy chain holding the halogen light.
I fired a single deafening shot that shattered the chain and plunged the entire warehouse into pitch black darkness.

The mercenaries instantly began firing blindly into the dark, completely panicked by the sudden ambush.
I activated my thermal night vision goggles and prepared to slaughter every single man in the room.
