Chapter 1 - The Interrogation Room

Roman stood in the soundproof basement of his McLean estate.

The air smelled strongly of copper and damp concrete.

The captured intruder was chained to a heavy steel chair in the center of the room.

Blood dripped steadily from the man’s broken nose onto the pristine floor.

Roman slowly rolled up the sleeves of his ruined, expensive dress shirt.

He stared at the man who had dared to put his filthy hands on his eldest son.

"Who gave you the retinal bypass codes?" Roman asked softly.

The man spat on the ground and stubbornly refused to answer.

Roman did not have the patience for criminal loyalty tonight.

His two young sons were upstairs crying in their bedrooms.

His surprisingly lethal nanny was currently being stitched up by an underground doctor.

Roman walked over to a metal workbench against the concrete wall.

He picked up a heavy iron wrench and weighed it perfectly in his large hand.

"You bypassed a state-of-the-art security grid that cost me ten million dollars."

"You walked directly past three heavily armed guards without triggering a single alarm."

Roman stepped much closer to the bleeding man tied to the chair.

"That means somebody inside my own house gave you the keys to my kingdom."

The intruder simply laughed, producing a wet and incredibly ragged sound.

Roman violently swung the heavy wrench, shattering the man's left kneecap instantly.

The intruder screamed in agonizing pain, thrashing wildly against the heavy steel chains.

"I will happily break every single bone in your body," Roman promised with absolute ice in his voice.

"Tell me which one of my men paid you to kidnap my children."

The bleeding man looked up, his eyes suddenly filled with a twisted, sickening amusement.

"You really are completely blind, DeLuca."

Roman tightened his brutal grip on the bloody iron wrench.

"What exactly does that mean?" Roman demanded.

"We didn't breach this heavily armed fortress to kidnap your pathetic kids."

May you like

Roman completely froze, the cold air suddenly leaving his lungs.

"We were paid three million dollars to execute the woman pretending to be your nanny."
