Chapter 7 - The Fall of the Boss

Adrian gasped in pain as the sharp blade pierced his side.
Blood immediately soaked through his torn shirt and dripped onto the metal grate.
I screamed his name and fired my weapon at Julian.
The bullet grazed Julian’s shoulder and caused him to drop the bloody knife.
Julian cursed loudly and scrambled toward the far end of the catwalk.
I rushed to Adrian’s side and pressed my hands hard against his bleeding wound.
His skin was deathly pale but his eyes remained fiercely locked on mine.
He whispered a desperate apology for the horrific crimes his father had committed against my family.
I told him to save his strength and refused to let the past destroy our future.
My mother unbuttoned her jacket and helped me tie a tight tourniquet around his torso.
Sirens began to wail in the distance as police responded to the earlier explosions.
Julian realized his grand plan was falling apart and tried to escape through a rooftop hatch.
I picked up my gun and told my mother to keep pressure on Adrian's wound.
I chased Julian up the final flight of stairs and kicked the metal hatch open.
The cold morning wind slapped my face as I stepped onto the flat roof of the chemical plant.
Julian was limping toward a waiting helicopter that was just starting its engines.
I fired a shot at the tail rotor and disabled the aircraft instantly.
Julian turned around and drew a spare pistol from his waistband.
He aimed the gun directly at my chest and prepared to end the Romano bloodline forever.
Suddenly, the roof access door burst open behind me.
Adrian stumbled onto the roof with his hand pressed firmly against his bleeding side.
He threw himself in front of me just as Julian pulled the trigger.
The bullet struck Adrian in the shoulder and spun him backward.
His momentum carried him directly toward the edge of the roof without a railing to stop him.
I lunged forward to grab his jacket but my fingers only caught empty air.
I watched in pure horror as Adrian plummeted over the side of the building.
His body disappeared into the thick fog hanging over the industrial complex below.

A triumphant laugh erupted from Julian as he mocked my failure.
I slowly turned around and felt every ounce of mercy vanish from my soul.
