Chapter 5 - The Double Agent

I lay helplessly on the cold floor of the safehouse as the potent sedative completely hijacked my nervous system.
I could still hear every single word as Marcus casually negotiated a massive payout with my brother over the phone.
He had been secretly working for the cartel this entire time, playing both sides for the highest bidder.
Marcus laughed darkly and promised Brandon that he would dispose of my body in a local incinerator before dawn.
He hung up the phone and callously tossed the silver flash drive onto the metal table above me.
He walked into the adjacent room to gather his weapons and prepare for his final, gruesome task.
My mind raced desperately as I fought with every ounce of my willpower to overcome the chemical paralysis.
I noticed that the heavy steel door of the safehouse had not been fully latched when we entered.
I forced my right hand to twitch, slowly dragging my fingers across the dusty concrete floor.
It took agonizing minutes to drag my incredibly heavy body toward the metal table.
I weakly reached up and knocked the silver flash drive off the edge of the table.
The tiny device fell directly into the floor ventilation grate and disappeared completely into the dark ductwork.
I heard Marcus's heavy combat boots walking back into the main room.
He stopped dead in his tracks and frantically scanned the table for the missing drive.
He aggressively grabbed me by my hair and violently demanded to know where I had hidden it.
I simply smiled a weak, drug-induced smile and refused to utter a single word to the traitor.
Marcus screamed in pure frustration and drew his heavy pistol to execute me on the spot.
Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the entire safehouse, completely blowing the steel door off its hinges.
A thick cloud of blinding white smoke poured into the room, accompanied by the deafening sound of tactical flashbangs.
Dozens of heavily armored figures rapidly breached the room with bright laser sights cutting through the darkness.
Marcus wildly fired his weapon into the smoke but was instantly neutralized by three precise shots to his chest.
The tactical team secured the room with terrifying speed and aggressively cleared the perimeter.
The commanding officer knelt beside me and gently injected a chemical stimulant into my arm to counteract the sedative.

My vision slowly cleared, revealing a man wearing an FBI tactical vest with the name "Agent Vance" stitched on it.
He looked at me with a grim expression and stated that my family had just kidnapped his wife.
