Chapter 2 - The Desperate Escape

I stared down the dark barrel of my brother's gun as a sudden surge of pure adrenaline flooded my veins.

I absolutely refused to die in the same kitchen where I used to bake cookies with my beautiful daughter.

I quickly grabbed the heavy ceramic coffee mug that Ethan had left by the sink.

I hurled the mug directly at Brandon's face with every single ounce of strength I possessed.

The heavy ceramic shattered against his forehead and sent cold coffee splashing across his eyes.

Brandon screamed in agonizing pain and blindly fired a suppressed shot that completely shattered the kitchen window.

I used the brief moment of absolute chaos to sprint desperately toward the hallway.

My father shouted angrily and lunged forward to grab the back of my dark sweater.

I violently twisted my body and shoved him hard against the wooden edge of the dining table.

He collapsed to the hardwood floor while clutching his ribs and cursing my name.

I ran out the front door and sprinted into the freezing rain as fast as my trembling legs could carry me.

I jumped into my car, frantically locked the doors, and slammed my foot on the gas pedal.

The tires screeched against the wet asphalt as I sped away from my completely compromised home.

I looked in my rearview mirror and saw Brandon running out of the house with his gun raised.

I drove blindly into the night, my heart hammering violently against my ribs like a trapped bird.

I needed to find a safe place to plug the flash drive into a computer and view the rest of the evidence.

I merged onto the highway, constantly checking my mirrors to see if I was being followed.

The heavy rain made it incredibly difficult to see the headlights of the cars behind me.

I finally allowed myself to breathe when I saw a cheap roadside motel approaching on the right.

Suddenly, a massive surge of bright headlights flooded my rearview mirror.

A massive black freight truck was tailgating me at a terrifying and incredibly illegal speed.

I gasped in pure horror when I recognized the distinct corporate logo painted on the grill of the truck.

It was the exact same shipping company that had crushed Ethan and Lily just days ago.

The truck aggressively accelerated and violently rammed into the back bumper of my car.

My vehicle spun completely out of control and crashed forcefully through the steel highway guardrail.
