Chapter 1 - The Dark Revelation

I stared at the opening line of Ethan's printed letter while the air completely left my lungs.
My husband had typed those terrifying words exactly two months before the horrific crash.
I looked up from the paper and stared directly into the eyes of my deeply tanned family members.
Brandon was aggressively tapping his expensive designer shoes against my hardwood floor.
He demanded to know exactly what was hidden inside the black envelope I was holding.
I completely ignored his selfish demands and kept reading the letter in absolute silence.
The document revealed that Brandon's new enterprise was actually a massive money laundering front for a regional cartel.
Ethan had discovered the illegal financial trail while auditing a shipping logistics company.
He had gathered undeniable proof and saved it entirely onto the small silver flash drive.
The letter explicitly stated that Brandon had found out about the investigation and directly threatened our family.
My husband had desperately tried to negotiate a peaceful exit to keep us completely safe.
Instead, the freight company responsible for the crash was secretly owned by my brother's new partners.
The horrific accident that took my beautiful daughter and my loving husband was a highly calculated execution.
My hands began to shake violently as the terrifying reality crashed over my entire body.
My own flesh and blood had orchestrated the brutal murder of my family to protect their dirty money.
I slowly raised my eyes and looked directly at the heartless monsters standing in my home.
My mother crossed her arms and rolled her eyes in sheer, unbelievable annoyance.
She told me to stop being so incredibly dramatic and just sign the bank wire authorization right now.
My father coldly added that they had a dinner reservation at a high-end steakhouse in exactly one hour.
They had deliberately skipped the funeral to establish a solid alibi in Miami while their hitman did the dirty work.
Brandon took a step closer to me with his dark eyes locking onto the flash drive in my trembling hand.
He asked me in a chillingly calm voice what exactly my dead husband had left behind for me.
I quickly shoved the flash drive into my jeans pocket and backed away toward the kitchen counter.
I lied and told him it was just a final legal document regarding the life insurance policy payout.
Brandon smiled a wicked and knowing smile that made my stomach completely turn inside out.
He told me that Ethan was always entirely too smart for his own good.

He slowly reached into the back waistband of his expensive designer shorts.
Then my brother pulled out a heavy, silenced pistol and aimed it squarely at my chest.
