Chapter 7 - The Chase

Rachel grabbed Sarah’s arm and violently yanked her out of the path of the speeding black SUV.

The massive vehicle completely smashed into the concrete barrier exactly where they had just been standing.

The heavy impact sent dangerous chunks of shattered concrete flying through the freezing night air.

"Get in my car, right now!" Rachel commanded, shoving the terrified assistant toward the passenger door.

Rachel threw herself into the driver’s seat, slamming the transmission into reverse and flooring the gas pedal.

The black SUV rapidly recovered, its screeching tires smoking heavily as it aggressively spun around to pursue them.

Rachel expertly navigated the incredibly tight, spiraling ramps of the parking garage at terrifying speeds.

Her damaged left arm screamed in absolute agony every time she aggressively jerked the steering wheel.

She violently smashed through the wooden exit gate, bursting out onto the wet, slick city streets.

The black SUV was completely relentless, aggressively ramming into their rear bumper and sending them dangerously fishtailing.

"Call 911!" Rachel yelled over the deafening sound of crunching metal.

"I can't, there is absolutely zero cellular service, they must be using a signal jammer!" Sarah cried hysterically.

Rachel knew she couldn't outrun the heavily armored vehicle on the empty, straight highway.

She made a sudden, highly illegal sharp turn into a narrow, incredibly crowded alleyway located behind a bustling nightclub.

The massive SUV violently attempted to follow, but it was far too wide for the incredibly tight brick space.

It crashed brutally into a heavy steel dumpster, becoming hopelessly wedged completely between the two brick buildings.

Rachel did not stop driving until they were miles away, finally parking behind an abandoned diner on the edge of town.

Both women sat in the dark car, gasping desperately for air while their hearts hammered wildly in their chests.

Rachel pulled the stolen USB drive from her pocket, gripping it so tightly her knuckles turned entirely white.

She pulled out her laptop, securely locked the car doors, and plugged the drive directly into the port.

The screen illuminated the dark car, displaying hundreds of highly classified financial documents.

But one specific video file named "Front Porch Backup" immediately caught her attention.

She double-clicked the file, her entire body shaking as the grainy black-and-white security footage began to play.

It was heavily timestamped on the exact night of the terrible fire.

Daniel was clearly visible on the screen, calmly walking out of their front door completely unharmed.

He then pulled out his shiny keys, firmly locked the deadbolt from the outside, and casually tossed a lit match directly into a puddle of gasoline on the porch.
