Chapter 10 - The Coastal Sunrise

One year later.

The morning sun filtered through the massive bay windows of the Carmel villa, casting a warm, golden glow across the newly installed hardwood floors. I stood on the balcony, a mug of hot coffee in my hands, listening to the rhythmic crash of the Pacific Ocean below.

The house felt completely different now. The dark, oppressive furniture Mark had insisted on was gone, replaced by light, airy pieces that breathed life into the space.

I wasn't just surviving anymore; I was thriving. I had used a portion of Arthur’s inheritance to establish the Eleanor & Arthur Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to providing free legal aid for women facing predatory divorces and domestic financial abuse. It gave my life a profound, fierce purpose.

Later today, I was meeting Mr. Sterling—not as a client, but as a co-board member for the foundation.

I took a deep breath of the salty air. I thought about the scared, heartbroken woman who had stood on the porch a year ago, holding divorce papers and facing total ruin. She was gone.

In her place stood someone unbreakable. My grandfather had given me the armor, but I had learned how to wield the sword. I smiled at the endless blue horizon, finally, truly, at home.
