Chapter 4 - The Stolen Vehicle

My mind raced wildly as I tried to comprehend the escalating, terrifying insanity of my family's actions.

My mother and sister had rapidly escalated from simple theft to grand theft auto in a matter of mere hours.

"How could they possibly steal a car in my name?" I demanded, my voice rising in profound frustration.

The officer explained that they had used my stolen personal information and forged documents to bypass the valet security protocols.

They were now officially fugitives running from the law in a stolen luxury vehicle connected directly to me.

I sat down heavily in the hospital chair, rubbing my temples as a massive, pounding headache began to form.

I just wanted to spend New Year's Eve holding my beautiful new son and comforting my recovering wife.

Instead, I was trapped in a terrifying legal nightmare orchestrated entirely by my own flesh and blood.

The police promised to issue an immediate nationwide alert for the stolen vehicle and my missing relatives.

I spent the next three hours sitting quietly beside Maya's bed, simply watching her chest rise and fall.

A kind nurse brought Liam into the room and gently placed him safely into my waiting arms.

I looked down at his perfect, tiny face and swore I would absolutely protect him from those monsters forever.

Maya slowly opened her eyes and offered me a weak, beautiful smile that melted my breaking heart.

"You saved us, David," she whispered, tears forming heavily in the corners of her exhausted eyes.

I leaned down and kissed her forehead gently, breathing in the scent of her skin.

"I will never let them anywhere near you again, I promise," I swore to her.

My quiet moment of peace was violently interrupted by a loud, aggressive knock on the hospital room door.

A woman wearing a sharp gray suit walked into the room carrying a thick, official-looking clipboard.

She introduced herself coldly as an investigator for the Department of Child Protective Services.

"Mr. Evans, we received an anonymous tip claiming you and your wife are severely neglecting your newborn son."

The investigator looked at me with cold, incredibly suspicious eyes that made my blood run cold.

"I am here with a court order to legally remove the child from your custody right now."
