Chapter 3 - The Hotel Raid

I listened incredibly carefully to the chaotic background noise filtering through the phone speaker.

The stranger speaking so aggressively to my mother was definitely a Miami hotel security director.

My mother was sobbing loudly, claiming she had absolutely no idea how the illegal drugs got into their luxury room.

Chloe was screaming wildly in the background, desperately blaming the entire terrifying situation on Mark.

"Where is Mark right now?" I asked my mother with a cold, entirely emotionless tone.

My mother gasped upon hearing my voice, suddenly realizing I was absolutely not going to play the role of the obedient son anymore.

"He took Maya's credit card and ran away an hour ago when the police arrived, David," she cried pathetically.

I felt absolutely zero pity for the cruel women who had left my wife to bleed and my son to freeze.

"You stole my money, you stole Maya's medication, and you left my family to die," I stated firmly.

"I have already handed the security footage over to the police, and you are entirely on your own."

My mother shrieked in absolute terror, begging me to withdraw the criminal complaint and pay for their legal defense.

I ended the call immediately and permanently blocked her phone number from ever reaching me again.

Two uniformed NYPD officers walked into the hospital waiting room to take my official, detailed statement.

I handed them my phone and let them watch the sickening security footage of the targeted theft.

The older officer shook his head in absolute disgust as he watched them pack Maya's prescribed pain pills.

"This is a massive felony, sir, and we are going to contact the Miami police department immediately," the officer assured me.

I felt a small sense of justice knowing they were finally going to face the brutal consequences of their unimaginable cruelty.

I walked softly into Maya's recovery room and gently held her warm, fragile hand.

She was finally sleeping peacefully, completely unaware of the absolute chaos rapidly unfolding in Florida.

Suddenly, the younger police officer rushed back into the room with a deeply troubled, anxious expression on his face.

"Mr. Evans, the Miami police just raided the hotel room, but your mother and sister are completely gone."

He looked at his notepad and delivered the next terrifying piece of information with a heavy sigh.

"They managed to steal a luxury car from the hotel valet, and the vehicle is legally registered under your name."
