Chapter 5 - The Forged Empire

I looked down at the court order in my hands, my blood running ice cold.

The document was authentic, complete with a judge's signature and a county watermark.

Wendy had built a mountain of fake medical records, painting my mother as a violent dementia patient.

"You have until 6:00 AM to say your goodbyes, Luca," Wendy taunted, walking back toward the master bedroom.

"And if you try to take her out of this house, you'll be arrested for kidnapping a legally incompetent adult."

She slammed the bedroom door, locking it from the inside.

I stood in the hallway for a moment, letting the silence of the house settle around me.

Wendy thought she had backed me into a corner where the law was entirely on her side.

She forgot that the law is just a system of numbers, codes, and leverage.

I went into the guest room, locked the door, and opened my laptop on the small desk.

I had six hours to completely dismantle Wendy's entire financial and legal existence.

First, I accessed the county clerk's database using a federal backdoor protocol.

I uploaded undeniable proof that Marcus's medical license had been quietly suspended in three other states for prescription fraud.

This automatically flagged every legal medical document he had signed in the past year, rendering them pending for investigation.

Next, I focused on Wendy's beloved offshore bank accounts.

I didn't just freeze her money; I initiated a massive, anonymous tip to the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.

I attached the routing numbers, the forged signatures, and the logs of her illegal wire transfers.

Around 4:00 AM, Wendy's phone began to buzz incessantly from behind her locked bedroom door.

I crept out into the hallway and pressed my ear against the wood.

I could hear Wendy frantically whispering to someone on the phone.

"What do you mean the account is locked? I have half a million dollars in there!" she hissed.

There was a pause as she listened to the banker on the other end of the line.

"Federal investigation? Money laundering? That's impossible, nobody knows about that account!"

She threw her phone against the wall in a fit of rage.

I smiled in the darkness, checking my watch as the time ticked closer to dawn.

Suddenly, the heavy sound of a diesel engine rumbled outside our front window.

I looked out through the blinds and felt my stomach drop to the floor.

An unmarked white van was idling in our driveway, two hours earlier than Wendy had promised.
