Chapter 2 - The Stolen Signature

The glowing screen of my laptop felt like a knife twisting into my chest. They had orchestrated this betrayal perfectly while I was thousands of miles away in Singapore. I stared at the forged confession letter, completely baffled by its flawless execution. It was not a simple digital copy. Someone had used my actual pen pressure and stroke patterns to create the fraudulent document. I closed the laptop and walked over to the bed where Elena was trying to sleep. She looked at my pale face and immediately sat up. She asked me what was wrong, her voice trembling with fresh anxiety. I gently held her hands and explained that my mother had frozen our accounts and framed me. Elena’s eyes widened in horror, and a sudden gasp escaped her lips. She pulled her hands away from mine and covered her face in shame. She confessed that two weeks ago, my mother had forced her to sign a stack of delivery receipts. Lucas had brought the papers to the house, claiming they were for the new nursery furniture. They had refused to let her read the documents, threatening to cancel her premium health insurance if she argued. Elena cried as she realized she had unknowingly authorized the transfer of my executive powers. I wrapped my arms around her and swore I would destroy them for manipulating her. I needed an ally who could bypass the internal corporate network. I picked up my phone and dialed Marcus, the senior legal counsel my father had trusted for decades. Marcus answered on the first ring, his voice dripping with faux sympathy. He told me to come to his private office immediately so we could draft a defense strategy. I told Elena to lock the hotel door and wait for me. I drove to the law firm in record time, desperate for a lifeline. I pushed open the heavy mahogany door to Marcus's office without knocking. Marcus was not sitting alone at his massive desk. My mother was sitting in the leather guest chair, sipping a glass of expensive champagne. She smiled and handed Marcus a thick envelope overflowing with cash. Marcus looked at me and coldly pressed a panic button under his desk to summon armed security.
