Chapter 9 - The Emergency Delivery

I ran out of the police precinct and jumped into a waiting taxi cab.

I told the driver to break every speed limit in the city to get me to the hospital.

My phone buzzed with a message from Marcus, explaining how he got the password.

Emily had briefly regained consciousness during the chaotic preparation for the emergency C-section.

She had used her last ounce of strength to whisper the password to a sympathetic surgical nurse.

Marcus had downloaded the video, which clearly showed Teresa viciously punching herself in the face with a heavy book.

The footage proved my innocence and cemented my mother's status as a violent, manipulative criminal.

The taxi screeched to a halt outside the hospital emergency room doors.

I sprinted through the automatic doors, ignoring the security guards yelling at me to slow down.

I found the maternity ward and desperately searched for the doctor who had treated Emily earlier.

The doctor spotted me and walked over with an exhausted, blood-stained surgical gown.

“Your wife is incredibly strong, Ethan,” the doctor said with a gentle, reassuring smile.

“She lost a lot of blood, but she is stable, and your son is fighting hard in the neonatal unit.”

I dropped to my knees right there in the hallway and wept tears of pure, unadulterated relief.

The doctor helped me to my feet and pointed toward Emily's private recovery room at the end of the hall.

“She has been asking for you since she woke up,” he told me kindly.

I walked down the quiet corridor, my heart overflowing with love and gratitude for my resilient family.

I gently pushed the heavy wooden door open, expecting to see my beautiful wife resting peacefully.

Instead, the room was filled with the sound of cruel, mocking laughter.

Teresa, Brittany, and Kayla were standing completely around Emily's fragile hospital bed.

Teresa was aggressively holding a pen and a legal document, screaming at my exhausted wife.

“Sign the house deed over to me right now, or I will unplug this machine myself!” Teresa threatened maliciously.
