Chapter 7 - The Cornered Rat

Mark froze entirely, his arrogant smirk instantly melting into a mask of pure, unadulterated terror.

He slowly turned his head toward the top of the marble staircase, his hand trembling slightly around his gun.

Chloe stepped out of the shadows, wearing a sleek tactical suit and holding a suppressed sniper rifle with deadly precision.

She looked absolutely nothing like the laughing, carefree mistress I had heard over the phone in the hospital.

She was cold, highly trained, and looking at Mark as if he were nothing more than a pathetic insect.

Chloe aggressively commanded Mark to drop his weapon and kick it across the expensive hardwood floor immediately.

Mark stubbornly refused, demanding to know why his beautiful new wife was pointing a loaded rifle at his head.

Chloe laughed a cruel, hollow laugh that echoed violently off the high ceilings of the living room.

She proudly revealed her true identity as a corporate mercenary working for a shadow syndicate overseas.

She explained that she only married him to gain legal access to the highly classified military prototypes in his main server.

She told Mark that his mother’s secret trust fund had completely ruined her quiet infiltration strategy.

Because Margaret had left the true voting shares to me, Mark no longer had the authority to transfer the patents.

Chloe then shifted her aim, pointing the lethal rifle directly at my chest with absolutely no hesitation.

She coldly demanded that I hand over the leather binder and physically sign the transfer documents immediately.

I realized with absolute certainty that Chloe fully intended to murder both of us the moment I signed my name.

I stalled for time, slowly reaching into my bag as if I were grabbing a pen.

Instead, I pressed the small, hidden panic button Silas had secretly sewn into the lining of my jacket.

Before Chloe could react to my delay, the massive glass windows of the living room violently shattered inward.

A heavily armed federal tactical unit, coordinated completely by Silas Thorne, breached the room from every possible angle.

A chaotic, deafening shootout instantly erupted, filling the grand living room with blinding smoke and flying debris.

I dropped to the floor, covering my head as bullets shredded the expensive furniture completely to pieces.

Through the thick smoke, I saw Mark scramble across the floor and grab the leather binder from the coffee table.

He completely abandoned Chloe to fight the federal agents alone as he sprinted desperately out the back door.

I realized Mark was not simply running away to save his own pathetic life.

He was heading straight for the company headquarters to physically destroy the main servers so nobody could ever claim his stolen empire.
