Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Trap

The revelation that my husband had been living a complete double life hit me like a freight train.

Mark had legally married an international corporate spy while I was busy washing his mother’s hospital gowns.

Silas quickly ushered me into the back of his armored limousine, ordering his driver to head to a secure safe house.

During the quiet ride, Silas explained that Chloe’s syndicate ultimately wanted the prototype military software Mark’s company was developing.

Mark was so blinded by his own arrogance and lust that he had essentially handed the keys to global terrorists.

I realized I could not just seek revenge; I had a moral obligation to stop a massive national security threat.

Silas offered me the full weight of his private security forces and limitless financial resources.

In exchange, I promised to sign an exclusive, highly profitable merger with his company once I regained control of my empire.

We spent the entire afternoon inside a heavily fortified penthouse, plotting the perfect trap for my cheating husband.

That evening, Mark appeared on the local television news, playing the role of a grieving, heartbroken son perfectly.

He cried fake tears for the cameras, publicly begging the police to find me and bring me to justice for my supposed crimes.

I felt a surge of absolute disgust, but I channeled that dark anger into our meticulous plan.

I used the encrypted phone to send Mark a direct, untraceable text message.

I told him I was hiding at our old estate and that I would trade the real trust binder for my freedom.

I explicitly warned him to come completely alone if he ever wanted to see the authentic silver key again.

Two hours later, I stood alone in the grand living room of the massive house I once called a home.

The front door slowly creaked open, and Mark stepped into the foyer looking incredibly smug and dangerous.

He laughed loudly, mocking my supposed stupidity for returning to the very place the police were searching.

He took a menacing step toward me, confidently pulling a heavy, black handgun from inside his tailored jacket.

I did not flinch or back away, maintaining a perfectly calm expression as I stared into his soulless eyes.

I asked him if he honestly thought I would be foolish enough to face a murderer without backup.

Mark smirked, boldly declaring that he had already neutralized Silas's men waiting outside in the dark gardens.

He proudly held up a specialized, military-grade gas canister that he claimed knocked out the entire security team.

He aimed his loaded weapon directly at my chest, his finger slowly tightening on the cold metal trigger.

Suddenly, a brilliant red laser dot appeared perfectly centered on Mark’s forehead.

A familiar, chilling voice echoed from the dark shadows at the top of the grand marble staircase.

You really are a complete idiot, Mark, if you think you were ever the one in charge of this operation.
