Chapter 3 - The Hotel Confrontation

My father had abandoned me when I was a child, leaving me with absolutely nothing but bitter memories.

The realization that my cheating husband was secretly working with my worst enemy made my blood boil with absolute fury.

I stormed out of the bank, leaving the terrified manager weeping at his desk as I dialed Mr. Sterling.

I instructed the lawyer to freeze every remaining asset and prepare a massive lawsuit against the financial institution.

I then drove aggressively toward the luxury hotel I had identified from Chloe’s arrogant social media post.

The towering glass building was the most exclusive, expensive hotel in the entire city.

I parked my car in a dark alleyway and slipped into the building through the busy service entrance.

I found a distracted room service waiter and handed him three hundred dollars for his uniform coat and his rolling food cart.

I put on the oversized jacket, pulled my hair into a messy bun, and pushed the cart toward the penthouse elevator.

My heart hammered aggressively against my ribs as the digital numbers slowly climbed to the top floor.

I pushed the heavy cart down the opulent hallway until I reached the massive double doors of the penthouse suite.

I carefully leaned my ear against the polished wood, listening intently to the muffled voices inside.

Chloe was screaming hysterically, aggressively demanding to know why Mark had sent the money to my father instead of her.

Mark yelled back, his voice dripping with venom as he explained the sinister details of his master plan.

He proudly confessed that my father was the only person with the political power to block a federal investigation.

Mark then laughed, a cruel, soulless sound that made me physically sick to my stomach.

He bragged to his mistress that Margaret’s sudden death tonight was not actually a medical tragedy.

He admitted that he had secretly swapped his mother’s vital heart medication with sugar pills three weeks ago.

I stood in the hallway, completely paralyzed by the horrifying reality that my husband was a cold-blooded murderer.

I quickly pulled my cell phone from my pocket and hit the record button to capture his chilling confession.

I pressed the microphone directly against the small gap under the suite doors.

Suddenly, a deafeningly loud alarm began blaring from my cell phone.

I had completely forgotten to turn off my daily evening reminder to feed Margaret.

The screaming alarm echoed violently down the empty, silent hotel corridor.

The voices inside the penthouse stopped instantly, replaced by the heavy sound of Mark’s footsteps sprinting toward the door.

Before I could even pick up my phone, the heavy wooden door was kicked violently open.
