Chapter 9 - The Poison Discovery

The paramedic's face went completely pale as he stared closely at Sienna's dilated pupils.

He urgently grabbed his medical radio and demanded that the hospital prepare a specialized toxicology team immediately.

I grabbed the paramedic's arm, my heart pounding as I desperately demanded to know what was wrong with my daughter.

The medic explained that Sienna's extreme fatigue and pale skin were not simply caused by her early pregnancy.

He noted a distinct, faint blue discoloration near her gum line that indicated severe, prolonged chemical poisoning.

Garrick had not just been physically abusing my daughter behind closed doors.

He had been secretly micro-dosing her daily meals with a lethal heavy metal toxin to slowly and quietly murder her.

I felt the entire world spin around me as the horrific magnitude of his evil finally sank in.

He was planning to slowly kill Sienna so he could inherit her massive trust fund completely undetected.

The paramedics rushed Sienna onto a stretcher and loaded her into the back of the waiting ambulance.

I climbed into the back with her, holding her cold hand as the sirens wailed loudly into the night.

I prayed to every god listening that the poison had not permanently harmed my beautiful daughter or her unborn child.

When we arrived at the hospital, a team of specialized doctors rushed Sienna into the intensive care unit.

I sat in the cold, sterile waiting room for what felt like an absolute eternity.

Commissioner Fletcher arrived an hour later, placing a comforting hand on my trembling shoulder.

He informed me that Garrick and Miriam had both been formally charged with attempted murder and corporate treason.

They would both spend the rest of their miserable lives rotting in federal prison.

The Commissioner also confirmed that the doctors had secured the exact chemical compound Garrick had used.

Knowing the specific toxin gave the medical team the exact antidote they needed to flush it from her system.

Just as the sun began to rise over the city, the lead doctor finally walked out of the intensive care unit.

He smiled warmly and announced that the antidote had completely stabilized Sienna's vital signs.

He proudly confirmed that the poison was entirely flushed out, and the unborn baby was perfectly healthy and unharmed.

We had survived the absolute worst night of our lives, and the future finally belonged to us.
