Chapter 5 - The Client

I stared at the medical document, my hands shaking violently as I read the unknown man's name.

The name printed in bold black letters across the top of the page was Julian Vance.

“Who is Julian Vance?” I muttered to myself, desperately trying to connect the dots.

I ran back upstairs with the documents, my heart pounding so loudly I could hear it in my ears.

I immediately opened my laptop and typed the mysterious name into the search engine.

Dozens of news articles flooded the screen, painting a terrifying picture of a dangerous man.

Julian Vance was a ruthless international power broker, known for dealing in illegal arms and human trafficking.

He had officially disappeared off the grid five years ago, evading multiple federal agencies.

I looked back down at the medical compatibility report in my trembling hands.

The document was stamped with a massive red seal that read, "Genetic Match Confirmed."

Claire was never my loving wife; she was a professional operative placed in my life for a specific reason.

She had targeted me, married me, and had Lily just to create a perfect genetic donor for this monster.

The terrifying realization washed over me, leaving me feeling sick and utterly helpless.

“We have to go, Maria, we cannot stay in this house for another second,” I shouted, slamming the laptop shut.

I grabbed a large duffel bag and frantically shoved baby clothes, bottles, and diapers inside.

“Where will we go?” Maria asked, wrapping Lily in a thick, warm blanket.

“I have an old hunting cabin in the mountains, no one knows about it, not even Claire,” I replied.

We rushed out to my truck, the cold night air biting at our skin as we loaded the supplies.

I turned the ignition key, praying the engine would start without any issues.

The engine roared to life, but before I could shift into gear, a massive black SUV blocked the driveway.

Two men in dark suits stepped out of the vehicle, reaching under their jackets for their weapons.

I slammed my foot on the gas pedal, steering the truck straight toward the manicured front lawn.
