Chapter 9 - The Family Secret

The massive Romano family estate was eerily quiet under the dark, cloudy sky.

Luca knew his Uncle Vincent was waiting inside the grand mansion, completely confident in his inevitable victory.

He turned to Mila and her sister, hiding them safely inside the heavily armored security booth at the main gate.

He handed Mila his spare, fully loaded handgun with a completely deadly serious expression.

He told her that if he did not walk out of those front doors in exactly five minutes, she needed to shoot the first person who approached the booth.

Mila gripped the heavy gun, her hands finally entirely steady as she nodded her understanding.

Luca turned and walked boldly across the expansive lawn, kicking the massive oak front doors entirely open.

He found Uncle Vincent sitting comfortably in the leather armchair of the main study, drinking an expensive glass of bourbon.

Vincent smiled warmly, acting as if he was simply greeting a beloved nephew returning home from work.

He casually explained that Luca was too soft, too focused on legitimate business, and completely ruining the mafia legacy.

Vincent proudly confessed that he had ordered the hit on Mila to force Luca into making a fatal, emotional mistake.

Luca did not waste time engaging in a dramatic, villainous monologue with his traitorous uncle.

He swiftly pulled a hidden combat knife from his boot and threw it with blinding, lethal speed.

The blade buried itself deeply into the expensive leather of the armchair, perfectly pinning Vincent’s right hand to the armrest.

Vincent screamed in sheer agony, dropping his crystal bourbon glass onto the expensive Persian rug.

Luca casually walked over, picked up the ringing phone on the desk, and dialed the local FBI field office.

He offered the federal agents absolute, undeniable proof of Vincent’s entire human trafficking network in exchange for full immunity.

He hung up the phone and looked down at his bleeding, completely defeated uncle with absolute disgust.

Luca declared that the Romano family was officially under new, permanent management.

He walked out of the mansion exactly four minutes and fifty seconds after he had left Mila at the gate.

He opened the door to the security booth and offered his hand to the incredible woman who had survived the worst night of her life.
