Chapter 4 - The Digital Breach

The red digital timer on the video screen began counting down from exactly ten seconds.

Luca did not waste a single fraction of a second panicking.

He kicked his heavy car door open, grabbed Mila by the waist, and threw her out of the vehicle.

They hit the hard concrete floor and rolled desperately behind a massive concrete support pillar.

A deafening explosion ripped through the underground garage, completely destroying the armored SUV.

Intense heat and a blinding flash of orange fire washed over the concrete pillar protecting them.

Mila coughed violently as thick, toxic black smoke filled the enclosed parking structure.

Luca pulled her to her feet, checking her quickly for any severe injuries before handing her a spare magazine for his gun.

He told her they needed to reach his secondary safehouse located three blocks away on foot.

They navigated the dark, smoky alleys, sticking completely to the shadows to avoid detection.

Mila’s bare feet were bleeding and bruised, but the pure adrenaline kept her moving forward.

They finally reached a luxury high-rise building and took a private freight elevator to the penthouse suite.

The luxurious apartment was a high-tech fortress filled with heavily armed servers and surveillance monitors.

Luca booted up the master terminal and began frantically typing commands to lock Marcus out of the network.

He successfully severed the connection, but his expression instantly turned incredibly grim.

He told Mila that Marcus had already sent the encrypted ledger to the federal database.

The only way to stop the decryption process was to physically destroy the server farm located inside the FBI field office.

Mila looked at the massive digital map glowing on the wall and realized the impossible truth.

The FBI field office was located inside the exact same skyscraper they were currently standing in.
