Chapter 7 - The Lobby Standoff

The arrogant smile on Marcus's face vanished instantly as he looked down at his own feet.
He was standing precisely on a slightly elevated metal grate that was part of the old shipping dock infrastructure.
Luca coldly explained that he had wired this entire facility with explosives three years ago specifically to handle traitors.
He demanded that Marcus order his mercenaries to drop their weapons and release the girl immediately.
Marcus swallowed hard, sweat completely soaking his collar as he realized his fatal miscalculation.
He commanded his men to lower their rifles, slowly pushing Mila’s terrified sister forward into the open.
Mila sprinted across the damp concrete, throwing her arms around her crying sister and dragging her behind a shipping container.
With the hostage secured, Luca smiled ruthlessly and prepared to press the detonator button.
Suddenly, the distinct, high-pitched whine of a sniper rifle echoed through the foggy night air.
A high-caliber bullet shattered the remote detonator right out of Luca’s hand, sending plastic pieces flying everywhere.
Marcus laughed hysterically, realizing his hidden sniper had just saved his miserable life.
He ordered his mercenaries to raise their weapons again and execute Luca on the spot.
Mila did not hesitate, stepping out from behind the heavy metal container with her handgun raised perfectly.
She aimed directly at a highly pressurized, industrial propane tank sitting right behind the group of mercenaries.
She pulled the trigger without flinching, sending a bullet tearing straight into the volatile metal tank.
A massive, blinding fireball erupted behind Marcus, violently throwing his mercenaries across the concrete docks.
Luca used the fiery distraction to draw his sidearm and shoot Marcus precisely in the right shoulder.
He grabbed Mila and her sister, pulling them toward a narrow service tunnel leading to the nearby subway station.
They ran blindly through the dark, echoing tunnel as the remaining mercenaries regrouped and gave chase.
Mila’s sister stumbled in the dark, looking back at Luca with wide, completely terrified eyes.
May you like
She whispered that the man who had kidnapped her was not Marcus, but a man with a massive spider tattoo on his neck.
Luca froze completely in his tracks, his face draining of all color in the dim tunnel light.
