Chapter 2 - The Hallway Shadow

The intruder raised his weapon, but Luca was significantly faster.

Two deafening gunshots shattered the quiet atmosphere of the small apartment.

The man in black collapsed heavily onto the hardwood floor, dropping his weapon.

Mila screamed and covered her ears, completely paralyzed by the sudden violence in her safe space.

Luca did not waste a single second checking the dead man's pulse.

He grabbed Mila by the wrist and dragged her forcefully out into the hallway.

They sprinted down the narrow stairs, completely bypassing the slow elevator.

Mila stumbled in her bare feet, her mind unable to process the absolute chaos erupting around her.

They burst through the heavy glass doors of the lobby and ran into the freezing night air.

A massive, armored black SUV was idling illegally by the curb.

Luca shoved her into the passenger seat and jumped behind the steering wheel.

He slammed his foot on the gas pedal, tearing away from the curb just as two more men ran out of her building.

Mila gasped for air, hugging her knees to her chest and staring at her boss in pure horror.

She asked him frantically why his dangerous enemies were suddenly trying to kill a simple assistant.

Luca navigated the dark city streets with terrifying speed, constantly checking his rearview mirrors.

He told her that the men inside her apartment did not belong to a rival mafia family.

His grip tightened on the leather steering wheel until his knuckles turned completely white.
