Chapter 7 - The Unseen Savior

Thick gray smoke and brick dust filled the entire warehouse, making it completely impossible to see.
Sarah screamed in shock and dove quickly behind a stack of wooden shipping crates for cover.
The engine of the armored truck roared like a wild beast as the driver cut the headlights.
David coughed loudly through the dust, desperately trying to break his tight nylon restraints.
The driver's side door of the truck slammed open, and a figure stepped boldly out into the hazy darkness.
The person was dressed in full tactical gear, wearing a terrifying ballistic mask that covered their entire face.
"Who are you?!" Sarah shrieked, firing her handgun blindly into the thick smoke.
The masked figure moved with incredible speed, dodging the incoming bullets effortlessly.
With a fluid motion, the stranger threw a small metal disc directly at Sarah's hiding spot.
A blinding flashbang grenade detonated instantly, filling the room with piercing white light and a deafening ringing sound.
Sarah dropped her gun and clutched her ears in pure agony, completely incapacitated.
The masked savior sprinted over to David and pulled a sharp tactical knife rapidly from their belt.
In two quick, precise slices, the thick nylon ropes binding David to the chair fell completely away.
"Thank you," David gasped, rubbing his bleeding wrists gratefully.
"Get your son and get in the truck immediately," the stranger commanded, their voice disguised entirely by a digital voice changer.
David did not hesitate for a single second.
He ran to the rusted metal door at the back of the room and kicked it wide open.
Leo was tied securely to a chair inside the small office, weeping silently out of sheer terror.
"Daddy!" Leo cried out enthusiastically, reaching his small arms toward his father.
David scooped the little boy up, hugging him tighter than he ever had in his entire life.
"I have got you, buddy, we are going home," David promised, rushing back toward the armored truck.
They climbed into the reinforced passenger cabin, surrounded by thick bulletproof glass and heavy steel plating.
The masked driver jumped smoothly into the front seat and slammed the massive vehicle into reverse.
They tore out of the ruined warehouse just as several black SUVs pulled up to the outer perimeter.
The Syndicate boss had finally arrived with a dozen heavily armed mercenaries.
"Hold on tightly," the masked driver ordered, hitting a glowing red switch on the dashboard.
The back of the armored truck opened rapidly, dropping a massive load of steel spikes across the road behind them.
The pursuing SUVs blew their tires instantly, crashing violently into the concrete street barricades.
They had successfully escaped safely into the dark city streets.

David looked closely at the masked driver's hands resting casually on the steering wheel.
On the driver's left wrist was a tiny, faded silver bracelet that made David's blood run completely cold.
