Chapter 4 - The Escape Plan

Vance raised his hand in a silent military gesture, ordering the dangerous men to move up the stairs.
David pulled his head back quickly, his mind racing with sheer terror and unimaginable betrayal.
His head of security had been bought off entirely by the Viper Syndicate.
"We have to go to the roof right now," David whispered to Maria, pulling Leo gently by the hand.
They turned around and silently sprinted toward the third-floor access door.
Bullets suddenly tore through the wooden banister right where they had been standing just seconds before.
"Do not let them get to the helipad!" Vance roared aggressively from the bottom of the stairs.
David shoved the heavy steel access door open and pushed Maria and Leo out into the freezing night air.
The rooftop was incredibly dark, but David's private helicopter was fueled and waiting on the pad.
Unfortunately, the hired pilot was absolutely nowhere to be found.
"Get inside the chopper and strap yourselves in," David ordered, handing Maria the heavy keys.
"But you don't know how to fly a helicopter, Mr. David!" Maria cried out in complete panic.
"I took lessons five years ago, we are going to have to make it work," David lied through his teeth.
He actually had no idea how to fly, but staying on the roof meant certain death for all of them.
David locked the steel door from the outside, buying them a few precious seconds of time.
He jumped into the pilot's seat and frantically started flipping the ignition switches he had seen his pilot use.
The massive rotors slowly began to groan and spin, chopping loudly through the freezing wind.
Suddenly, the steel access door bulged outward with a deafening boom.
Vance and his ruthless men had attached breaching explosives to the hinges.
The door blew entirely off its frame, sending twisted metal skidding violently across the concrete roof.
Vance stepped out of the thick smoke, aiming his assault rifle directly at the cockpit window.
David grabbed the main control stick and pulled it backward with all of his physical strength.
The helicopter violently jerked upward into the night sky just as Vance opened fire.
Bullets shattered the front windshield, narrowly missing David's head by less than an inch.
They were airborne and flying erratically over the glowing city lights.
David breathed a massive sigh of relief, thinking they had finally escaped the deadly ambush.

Then, Leo pointed a trembling finger toward the dark back of the cabin.
Sarah emerged slowly from the luggage compartment, holding a sharp combat knife directly to Maria's throat.
