Chapter 7 - Breathless

A massive explosion rocked the shipyard, but it wasn't the container we were in.
Sebastian had blown up my father's armored convoy parked just outside the warehouse doors.
The concussive shockwave knocked my father and his guards violently to the floor.
Sebastian didn't waste a single millisecond.
He fired two rapid shots, hitting both of my father's guards in their shoulders.
I dove across the container and shielded my three children with my own body.
Chloe screamed and dropped her weapon, scrambling desperately toward the open doors.
Sebastian grabbed my father by the collar and slammed him against the steel wall.
"You will never touch my family again," Sebastian growled.
He pressed the barrel of his gun directly under my father's chin.
"Kill me, and my syndicate will hunt you to the ends of the earth," my father spat blood.
"They won't have to," Sebastian replied coldly.
"I already sent your exact coordinates to the FBI task force that has been hunting you for a decade."
Sirens began wailing loudly in the distance, quickly approaching the shipyard.
"We have to leave, right now," Sebastian told me, releasing my father.
He scooped up Owen and Noah, while I grabbed Ivy and the battered toy dog.
We sprinted out of the container just as federal agents began swarming the entrance of the docks.
We reached the armored car and sped away into the labyrinth of Brooklyn streets.
The adrenaline slowly faded, leaving me trembling in the passenger seat.
Sebastian reached across the center console and grabbed my hand.
"Are the kids okay?" he asked, his voice filled with raw emotion.
I looked in the backseat and saw them sleeping peacefully, exhausted by the terror.
"They are safe," I whispered, squeezing his hand tightly.
"We are all safe."
May you like
But as we approached our secret safehouse, my phone chimed with an encrypted text message.
"Your father wasn't the one who ordered the hit in Central Park today," the message read.
