Chapter 5 - The Empty Stroller

The phone slipped from my fingers and shattered on the hardwood floor.

Sebastian didn't need to ask what had happened.

He turned toward Julian with a look of pure, unadulterated murder.

"Chloe was never Grandfather's spy," Sebastian realized aloud.

"She is working for someone else, trying to seize the Vale empire by controlling my heirs."

I grabbed Sebastian's jacket, tears streaming down my face.

"They have my babies," I screamed.

"I will burn this entire city to ash to get them back," Sebastian swore.

He pulled out his phone and made a single, terrifying phone call.

"Activate the protocol," he ordered the person on the other end.

Within minutes, Sebastian's true power, the darker empire the public never saw, came to life.

"I sewed a GPS tracker into Owen's toy dog," I blurted out, remembering my paranoia.

Sebastian immediately pulled up the tracking software on a secure tablet.

A blinking red dot appeared on the screen, moving rapidly toward the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

We left Julian behind and sped toward the docks in absolute silence.

When we arrived, the shipyard was completely deserted and bathed in an eerie fog.

The GPS signal led us to an isolated shipping container near the edge of the water.

Sebastian drew his weapon and kicked the heavy metal latch open.

Inside, Chloe was standing with two armed guards, pointing a gun directly at my children.

"You're just in time to watch your legacy end, Sebastian," she smiled.

I screamed and lunged forward, but Sebastian pulled me back.

Because Chloe wasn't the only person in the container.

Stepping out from the shadows was a man I thought had died ten years ago.

It was my own father.
