Chapter 6 - The Bloodline

I stared at the man in the shadows, my mind completely unable to process the reality.

My father was supposed to have died in a car crash when I was in college.

Now, he was standing in a shipping container, wearing a custom Russian syndicate suit.

"Hello, little bird," my father said, his thick accent sending chills down my spine.

"Dad?" I whispered, my voice trembling violently.

Sebastian kept his weapon leveled firmly at the older man's chest.

"Your father is Alexei Volkov," Sebastian revealed to me, his voice entirely calm.

"He is the head of the Bratva, my grandfather's greatest enemy."

The pieces of the puzzle violently snapped into place.

My father hadn't died; he had faked his death to protect his position in the underworld.

Sebastian's grandfather hadn't framed me for an affair out of snobbery.

He had framed me because he found out I was the daughter of a rival crime boss.

"Chloe works for me," my father explained casually.

"I needed the Vale heirs to force a permanent merger between our two families."

He looked at the triplets, who were crying and clinging to each other in the corner.

"They have Volkov blood," my father stated proudly.

"You are going to let us walk out of here with them," Sebastian warned.

My father laughed, a booming sound that echoed off the metal walls.

"If you shoot me, my men outside will riddle this container with bullets," my father threatened.

"I am offering you a crown, Sebastian, rule alongside me."

I looked at the man I once loved, terrified he might take the deal to save his own life.

Sebastian slowly lowered his weapon.

My heart shattered into a million pieces.

Then, Sebastian reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, remote detonator.

"I don't share crowns," Sebastian smiled, and pressed the button.
