Chapter 6 - The Alleyway Ambush

Daniel smiled a cruel, arrogant smile as he slapped his wooden baseball bat against the palm of his hand.
He told me that my mother had called him from the bank, begging him to fix the mess she had created.
Sarah stepped bravely in front of me, holding up her phone and threatening to call the police.
One of the hired thugs simply laughed, lunged forward, and slapped the phone violently out of her hand.
I knew that we could not win a physical fight against three armed men in a narrow, dead-end alleyway.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small canister of military-grade pepper spray I had bought for emergencies.
I aimed it directly at the faces of the two thugs and held the button down, unleashing a thick, burning cloud of chemical spray.
The men screamed in absolute agony, dropping their bats and clawing furiously at their burning eyes.
Daniel coughed heavily, stumbling backward and swinging his bat blindly through the orange chemical mist.
I grabbed Sarah by the hand and pulled her past the blinded men, sprinting toward the busy main street.
Daniel managed to recover faster than his hired muscle, chasing after us with a furious, unhinged roar.
He threw his heavy wooden bat with all his strength, aiming directly for the back of my head.
The bat missed me by inches, shattering the glass window of a nearby parked car and setting off a blaring car alarm.
The loud noise drew the attention of several pedestrians on the sidewalk, causing Daniel to finally stop his pursuit.
He pointed a threatening finger at me from the shadows of the alley, screaming that I was a dead man.
Sarah and I did not stop running until we reached a crowded subway station three blocks away.
We swiped our cards and boarded a crowded train, finally blending into the safety of the massive morning commute.
Sarah was shaking with adrenaline, but her legal mind was already calculating our next crucial move.
She told me that Daniel and Rachel would absolutely try to block the will by claiming it was a fraudulent document.
I remembered the secret compartment in the broken wardrobe, realizing there was something else hidden beneath the wood.
When I had pulled the ledger out, I had felt a small, hard object embedded deep within the hollowed-out leg.
I told Sarah that we needed to make a quick detour to my apartment before heading to the courthouse.
Sarah agreed, knowing that we needed every piece of irrefutable evidence my father had left behind.
We cautiously approached my apartment building, ensuring that Daniel's men were no longer watching the street.
My front door was still shattered from the break-in, leaving my apartment completely exposed to the hallway.
I walked straight to the broken red wardrobe in the living room and tipped it completely upside down.
I used a kitchen knife to pry the broken wooden leg completely apart, exposing a small, hollow cavity.
Inside the cavity was a secure, encrypted USB flash drive wrapped tightly in black electrical tape.
I plugged the drive into my laptop, entered my father's birthday as the password, and opened the single video file stored inside.
The video showed my father sitting in his hospital bed, looking directly into the camera with a weak but determined expression.
He clearly stated his full name, his sound state of mind, and his exact reasons for disinheriting Daniel and Rachel.
He exposed their fraudulent activities, their lack of blood relation, and confirmed that the will I possessed was his final decree.
I smiled, knowing this video was the ultimate trump card that would destroy their greedy lies in court.

Suddenly, my laptop screen flickered violently, turned completely black, and a sinister red loading bar appeared.
The words "REMOTE WIPE INITIATED" flashed across the screen in bold, undeniable letters.
