Chapter 6 - The Bleeding Heart

The terrifying echo of the gunshot reverberated wildly through the dark ballroom, bringing a sudden, horrifying silence to the chaotic crowd.

A few seconds later, the hotel's emergency backup generators finally kicked in, bathing the massive room in a dim, eerie red glow.

I blinked aggressively against the harsh light and saw Dominic completely pinned face-down against the marble floor by three massive security guards.

The heavy handgun had been successfully kicked far away from his desperate reach, leaving him entirely powerless and utterly defeated.

The stray bullet had harmlessly shattered a massive decorative mirror on the far wall, miraculously missing every single person in the room.

My father immediately dropped to his knees beside me, his strong hands gently supporting my head as I laid on the cold floor.

"You're safe now, Vivienne, the paramedics are already rushing into the building," my father promised, his voice shaking with raw emotion.

I tried to smile and reassure him, but a sudden, terrifying wave of dizziness violently washed over my entire brain.

I looked down and realized with absolute horror that the puddle beneath me was no longer just clear amniotic fluid.

A massive, terrifying pool of dark red blood was rapidly expanding across the pristine marble floor from beneath my torn dress.

The severe physical trauma and intense stress of the hostage situation had caused a catastrophic placental abruption.

My father screamed for the medics, his billionaire composure completely breaking as he desperately applied pressure to try and stop the heavy bleeding.

Dominic struggled violently against the guards pinning him down, his face twisted into an ugly, unrepentant mask of pure rage.

"I will completely ruin you for this, Vivienne! I will make sure you never see a single penny of peace!" Dominic screamed like a lunatic.

Chloe and Eleanor were aggressively handcuffed by local police officers who had finally arrived to secure the chaotic, bloody crime scene.

They wept pathetically as they were forcefully dragged out of the grand ballroom, their elite social reputations permanently and completely destroyed.

A team of highly trained paramedics rushed through the doors, aggressively pushing past the remaining guests with a rolling stretcher.

They quickly and efficiently transferred my limp, heavily bleeding body onto the stretcher, shouting complex medical terms that I couldn't comprehend.

I felt the agonizingly cold air of the hotel lobby hit my face as they sprinted frantically toward the waiting ambulance outside.

The sheer amount of blood loss was making the edges of my vision turn completely black and terrifyingly fuzzy.

I weakly grabbed the paramedic's sleeve, desperately begging him to save the innocent baby fighting for its life inside me.

The paramedic looked down at me with a deeply grim, sympathetic expression, refusing to make a promise he couldn't legally keep.

My eyes fluttered completely shut as the blaring siren of the ambulance began to wail, dragging me into a deep, silent darkness.

I finally completely lost consciousness, utterly terrified that I would wake up in a world without my precious, unborn child.
