Chapter 6 - The Subterranean Escape

Elena cried out in sheer agony, clutching her swollen belly as she collapsed into the damp tunnel.
"My water just broke," she gasped, her face twisting in excruciating pain.
Julian's heart hammered against his ribs as he realized the extreme stress had triggered premature labor.
"I have you, just keep breathing," Julian said, lifting her carefully into his strong arms.
He carried her through the dark, foul-smelling drainage pipe, splashing through ankle-deep water.
Above them, they could hear the muffled shouts of Stefano's men searching the abandoned office.
They navigated the twisting maze of concrete tunnels for what felt like hours.
Elena groaned softly with every contraction, her grip on Julian's shoulder tightening painfully.
They finally reached an iron ladder that led up to a street-level manhole cover.
Julian climbed up first, pushing the heavy iron disc aside with a massive surge of adrenaline.
He climbed out into a quiet, deserted alleyway in the city's industrial meatpacking district.
He reached down and gently pulled Elena up to the slick, rain-washed pavement.
She was losing strength rapidly, unable to stand on her own trembling legs.
Julian knew he could not take her to a public hospital, as Stefano owned half the medical boards in the city.
He pulled out his phone and dialed the only man he could trust with his life.
Dr. Evans was a retired, underground surgeon who had owed Julian's late father a massive life debt.
"I need your help right now, Arthur," Julian demanded as soon as the old man answered.
Ten minutes later, a battered medical transport van screeched into the alleyway.
Dr. Evans helped Julian load the screaming Elena into the back of the sterile mobile clinic.
"The baby is in distress, Julian," the doctor warned, checking her vitals with a grim expression.
"We need to get to my private surgical suite immediately."
They sped through the city, arriving at a hidden, unmarked warehouse that served as the doctor's secret clinic.
Julian carried Elena inside and placed her gently on the pristine white surgical table.

The doctor quickly began preparing his medical instruments to deliver the baby safely.
Suddenly, the heavy steel door of the clinic exploded inward in a massive shower of sparks and smoke.
