Chapter 5 - The Smart House Prison

Sarah kept the heavy pistol aimed squarely at my chest while my father slowly scrambled back to his feet.

My mother stood nervously in the corner, desperately trying to justify the horrific nightmare unfolding in front of her.

"If you had just been a better daughter and shared your salary, Sarah would never have needed to borrow that dirty money," Helen aggressively blamed me.

The sheer audacity of her toxic delusion was so completely mind-boggling that I did not even bother to argue back.

Evelyn suddenly let out a massive, agonizing gasp from the bed and violently clutched the center of her chest.

My grandmother collapsed heavily onto the pillows, her eyes rolling back as she began to desperately gasp for vital air.

"Oh my god, you literally just gave her a massive heart attack!" Sarah screamed, momentarily lowering the heavy weapon in pure panic.

I knew instantly that Evelyn was brilliantly faking the medical emergency, utilizing a distraction tactic she had explicitly taught me years ago.

I did not waste a single, precious second of the golden opportunity my grandmother had just bravely provided.

I lunged aggressively forward, grabbing the hot barrel of the pistol and twisting it violently out of Sarah's weak grip.

Sarah shrieked in pain as her wrist popped, and I immediately shoved her backward into my stunned father.

I quickly checked the chamber of the stolen weapon, ensuring it was fully loaded and ready to completely defend us.

"Nobody move a single muscle, or I swear I will drop you right here," I commanded with a lethal, icy tone.

Just as I took complete control of the hostile room, the smart-lights in the ceiling violently flickered and turned a dark, menacing red.

Heavy metal security shutters abruptly slammed down over every single window in the house with a loud, deafening crash.

The heavy, motorized electronic locks on the bedroom door engaged simultaneously, trapping us completely inside the fortified room.

Liam had maliciously hacked into the modern smart-home security system my parents had recently installed for their own protection.

"I have completely locked down the entire perimeter, Maya," Liam's distorted voice echoed through the house's intercom system.

"You have exactly ten minutes before the cartel hitmen arrive to brutally collect their massive debt," he added with a chilling laugh.

I was now completely locked in a high-tech prison with my corrupt family, a fake heart attack, and highly trained killers rapidly approaching.
