Chapter 8 - The Traitor Within
I spun around instantly, my pounding heart violently dropping straight into my incredibly tight stomach.
Standing casually in the grand, luxurious living room was Julian's highly trusted chief of security, holding a small remote override device.
He slowly raised his heavy weapon and aimed it directly and unflinchingly at Julian's chest.
The security chief coldly and arrogantly explained that Chloe's dangerous mercenary boyfriend had offered him a massive, life-changing sum to fully betray us.
He aggressively demanded that I complete the massive wire transfer to Chloe's account right now, or Julian would instantly die.
Julian remained perfectly, incredibly still, his angry eyes locked fiercely on his highly traitorous employee.
I slowly backed away, my cold hands shaking incredibly violently as I reached for the encrypted laptop on the glass coffee table.
I opened the secure banking portal, feeling the truly terrifying weight of the deadly situation actively crushing my chest.
I slowly typed in the first authorization codes, mentally preparing to surrender my entire fortune just to save Julian's life.
Patricia suddenly let out a truly deafening, aggressive scream and lunged violently forward across the room.
She tackled the massive, heavily armed security chief directly around the knees, throwing him completely and totally off balance.
The heavy gun fired incredibly wildly, completely shattering a massive pane of expensive bulletproof glass overlooking the beautiful ocean.
Julian instantly sprang into violent action, delivering a remarkably devastating, perfectly aimed blow to the traitor's jaw.
The traitorous security chief collapsed heavily to the expensive floor, entirely and completely unconscious.
I stared blindly at Patricia, completely and utterly stunned that the terrible woman who had openly mocked my daughters had just bravely risked her life for us.
Patricia stood up incredibly slowly, carefully brushing the shattered, sharp glass from her ruined designer dress.
She looked directly at me and sincerely stated she finally realized that true family is defined by genuine loyalty, not by gender.
Julian quickly and highly efficiently bound the unconscious traitor with heavy plastic zip ties and securely confiscated his weapon.
My secure satellite phone suddenly began to ring incredibly loudly with an incoming, highly encrypted secure call.

It was the highly decorated lead commander of the European tactical unit.
He formally announced that they had successfully raided the massive Vance estate, but I desperately needed to brace myself for incredibly terrible news.
