Chapter 17 - The Trap Closes

The air on the illuminated terrace grew instantly, suffocatingly cold.
Julian did not cause a public scene.
He was a master of maintaining his pristine, untouchable facade.
He simply grabbed my upper arm with a grip so incredibly vicious it bruised the bone.
He loudly announced to the applauding guests that we needed a brief, private moment to celebrate, forcing me to walk quickly toward the dark, empty library inside the villa.
I signaled for Sophia and Maya to immediately go to the kitchen with the head chef, a kind older woman who adored them.
The moment the heavy oak doors of the library slammed shut behind us, Julian’s charming mask completely fell away.
He shoved me forcefully toward the center of the room, his voice dropping to a terrifying, lethal whisper.
He demanded to know exactly where I had moved the blind trust funds.
I stood perfectly straight, smoothing the fabric of my emerald gown.
I did not cower, and I did not cry.
I looked directly into the eyes of the monster I had foolishly trusted.
I calmly told him that I had moved the money to a decentralized network he could never touch.
I told him I knew absolutely everything about his father, Lorenzo Rossi.
I knew he had funded Chloe.
I knew he had hired Dmitri.
Julian stared at me, genuinely shocked that the pawn he had manipulated so flawlessly had just completely outsmarted him on his own board.
He let out a dark, incredibly chilling laugh.
He admitted everything without a single shred of remorse.
He arrogantly stated that Mark and Arthur Vance deserved absolute destruction, and my wealth was simply the rightful compensation for his family’s suffering.
He then pulled a small, heavy silver handgun from his tailored suit jacket and aimed it directly at my chest.
He coldly informed me that if I did not log into my laptop and instantly reverse the massive wire transfers, he would instruct his security detail to drag my daughters into the library.
I felt a violent spike of pure, maternal adrenaline flood my system.
I had fully anticipated this exact, terrifying ultimatum.
I looked at the antique grandfather clock ticking in the corner of the room.
It was exactly nine-thirty.

I smiled coldly at Julian and told him he was incredibly arrogant to think I would confront him without an insurance policy.
At that exact second, all the lights in the massive villa completely blacked out.
