Chapter 8 - The Lethal Injection

Deafening medical alarms began to blare as Lily’s heart monitor showed a wildly dangerous arrhythmia.
The lethal dose of potassium was rapidly shutting down the electrical signals in the little girl's fragile heart.
Dr. Jenkins shouted for a crash cart and immediately began pushing calcium and insulin into a secondary IV line to counteract the spike.
Thomas held his daughter’s hand tightly, watching in sheer terror as her eyes rolled back into her head.
He felt utterly helpless as the medical team fought desperately to reverse the silent assassination attempt.
Officer Miller immediately ran to the nurses' station and accessed the security camera footage from the hallway.
He scrubbed through the digital video, searching for anyone who had touched the stretcher during the brawl.
The footage clearly revealed the nervous hospital administrator slipping a syringe into Lily's IV bag while Thomas was wrestling Richard.
Officer Miller shouted the administrator's description to the other cops, initiating an immediate manhunt within the building.
The administrator had realized his crime was recorded and was already sprinting down the emergency stairwell.
Thomas heard the description over the police radio and felt a surge of cold, focused vengeance replace his fear.
He left Lily's side, trusting the surgeon to save her, and bolted out the fire doors.
He bounded down the concrete steps, taking them three at a time in a reckless pursuit of the coward.
Thomas caught up to the administrator on the second-floor landing and launched himself forward like a missile.
He grabbed the corrupt man by the collar of his cheap suit and slammed him brutally against the cinderblock wall.

The administrator gasped for air, his briefcase popping open and spilling stacks of hidden cash everywhere.
He begged for his life, crying pathetic tears as Thomas pulled a heavy fist back, ready to shatter his jaw.
