Chapter 7 - The Desperate Escape

Evelyn pulled the trigger with a terrifying scream of absolute hatred.

The gun jammed with a hollow, metallic click, entirely failing to fire the lethal round.

Before she could clear the chamber, Officer Miller launched himself across the hallway and tackled her to the ground.

He wrenched the useless weapon from her hands and slammed heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists.

Other officers finally breached the secondary doors, swarming the locked ward to secure Richard and Evelyn.

Thomas scrambled across the floor on his hands and knees, rushing to his daughter's side.

He wrapped his arms carefully around the stretcher, sobbing uncontrollably as he kissed Lily's forehead.

The little girl smiled weakly, whispering that she knew her daddy would never hurt her.

The massive steel doors were finally lifted, and the tension in the hospital began to dissipate.

Dr. Jenkins walked over to a computer terminal to review Lily's post-operative blood work that had just arrived.

Her face instantly turned ashen, and her eyes widened in complete medical terror.

She rushed back to the stretcher and frantically began checking Lily's vital signs.

Thomas panicked, asking the doctor what could possibly be wrong now that the monsters were arrested.

Dr. Jenkins announced that while the intestinal twist was a natural defect, someone had actively tampered with the child.

The blood work proved that a massive, lethal dose of potassium had just been injected directly into Lily's intravenous line.

The poisoning had not happened at the house before the surgery.

The deadly injection had occurred right here in the hospital hallway during the chaotic lockdown.
