Chapter 9 - The Safe House

The horrific realization that the tablet was a homing beacon forced me to make an immediate, desperate decision.

I grabbed the glowing device from Adam's lap and aggressively threw it out the shattered window.

It violently smashed into a thousand pieces against the unforgiving highway asphalt.

"We need federal help right now," I declared, aggressively accelerating toward the city center.

I completely bypassed the corrupt local police precinct and drove directly to the FBI field office.

I ignored the heavy security warnings and practically crashed my ruined car into the concrete barricades.

A dozen heavily armed federal agents immediately swarmed the vehicle with their weapons drawn.

"We need emergency protection," I screamed, holding my hands entirely out the window to show I was unarmed.

"My son has been shot, and a criminal syndicate is aggressively hunting this child."

The agents quickly assessed the terrifying situation, immediately calling for secure medical transport.

They rushed us forcefully into the heavily fortified federal building, locking down the entire perimeter.

A stern, authoritative man wearing a dark suit introduced himself as Special Agent Vance.

He listened intensely to my frantic story, his expression hardening with professional fury.

Vance immediately dispatched a tactical raid team directly to my son's suburban home.

We sat in a secure, windowless interrogation room while a federal medic properly bandaged Adam's shoulder.

The television on the wall silently broadcasted breaking local news coverage of the ongoing raid.

I watched in absolute awe as federal agents dragged a handcuffed, furious Brooke entirely out of her house.

The news anchor confirmed the discovery of an illegal human trafficking ring operating inside the suburban neighborhood.

Brooke's empire of terror was completely dismantled in less than twenty minutes.

I let out a massive, exhausting breath, feeling the heavy adrenaline finally leave my battered body.

We had decisively won the war against the monsters.

Special Agent Vance walked back into the room, offering a warm, deeply comforting smile.

He gently handed Adam a clean white towel to wipe the remaining blood from his neck.

"You are all completely safe now," Vance announced with absolute, reassuring certainty.
