Chapter 8 - The Escape

I aggressively shoved Adam's bleeding body into the passenger seat and slammed the heavy door shut.

I threw myself entirely across the center console just as a third sniper bullet shattered the windshield.

Shards of sharp glass rained heavily over the dashboard as I blindly shifted the car into drive.

I slammed the gas pedal down, keeping my head completely tucked below the steering wheel.

The sedan violently smashed into a concrete pillar, aggressively bouncing off and tearing down the exit ramp.

I drove recklessly down three flights of spiraling concrete, the tires shrieking in absolute protest.

Adam groaned in agonizing pain, tightly clutching his profusely bleeding shoulder.

"Type the code into the tablet," I screamed over the deafening wind rushing through the shattered window.

Adam wiped blood from his shaking hands and frantically began typing onto the cracked screen.

We reached the ground floor just as two black SUVs violently blocked the exit gate.

I did not touch the brake pedal for a single second.

I aimed the sedan directly at the narrow gap between the heavy vehicles and braced for total impact.

The collision was absolutely deafening, violently crushing the side panels of my car as we squeezed through.

We burst aggressively out onto the busy main street, leaving the stunned handlers far behind us.

"Did you transmit the code," I yelled, looking desperately at the digital timer on Maisie's chest.

Fifteen minutes remaining.

Adam hit the final button on the tablet, and the screen flashed a brilliant, blinding green.

The heavy black box on Maisie's chest abruptly beeped three times in rapid succession.

The thick steel zip-ties violently snapped open, and the explosive device fell harmlessly onto the floorboards.

Maisie let out a massive, shuddering breath, completely free from the horrifying physical burden.

I let out a hysterical laugh of profound relief, believing we had actually survived the impossible nightmare.

But Adam was not smiling as he stared down at the glowing tablet in his lap.

All the remaining color completely drained from his pale, terrified face.

"Mom," Adam whispered, his voice trembling with sheer, unadulterated panic.

"Inputting the master code did not just unlock the harness."

"It instantly activated the secondary GPS tracker embedded directly inside the tablet."

"They know exactly where we are, and they are sending everyone."
