Chapter 7 - The Chase

The three black SUVs accelerated aggressively, completely ignoring the red traffic lights.
They were no longer trying to hide their pursuit in the heavy suburban traffic.
"Hold on tightly, Maisie," I shouted, slamming the gas pedal completely to the floorboards.
The silver sedan roared, tearing down the empty industrial avenue at eighty miles an hour.
The heavy SUVs were much faster, rapidly closing the gap between our bumpers.
I aggressively swerved into the oncoming lane, narrowly avoiding a massive delivery truck.
The sudden maneuver caused the lead SUV to slam heavily on its brakes to avoid a head-on collision.
I used the brief distraction to violently jerk the steering wheel, throwing my car into the dark parking garage.
Tires screeched agonizingly against the concrete as I sped recklessly up the spiraling ramp.
I needed to find Adam, get the code, and escape before the handlers completely sealed the exits.
I reached the fourth floor and aggressively slammed on the brakes, throwing the car into park.
Adam was standing entirely alone in the center of the empty concrete deck, clutching a glowing tablet.
His face was bruised, and a dark stain of fresh blood was aggressively soaking through his white shirt.
"I got the code," Adam shouted, limping desperately toward my parked car.
I threw open the passenger door, reaching out to drag my injured son into the vehicle.
Before his hand could even touch the door handle, a deafening gunshot violently echoed through the garage.
Adam screamed in sheer agony as a high-caliber sniper bullet ripped completely through his left shoulder.
He collapsed heavily onto the concrete, the glowing tablet skittering out of his bloody hands.
I looked up and saw a tactical sniper positioned perfectly on the roof of the adjacent office building.
The handlers had not followed me to the garage to capture us.
They had followed me to publicly execute us both.
I dove out of the car, entirely ignoring the imminent danger, and scrambled across the rough concrete.
May you like
I grabbed the glowing tablet and violently dragged Adam's heavy, bleeding body toward the passenger seat.
A second bullet sparked violently against the asphalt, missing my head by less than two inches.
