Chapter 1 - The Forgotten Face

Damiano Conti locked the heavy mahogany door of his private office and walked slowly toward his massive desk.
He could not stop thinking about the battered gray rabbit with the missing left ear.
His mind was a terrifyingly precise steel trap that never forgot a single detail of his violent past.
Four years ago, he had gifted an identical stuffed animal to a beautiful, innocent woman named Elena.
Elena was the only person who had ever managed to melt the freezing ice surrounding his dark heart.
She had supposedly burned to death in a horrific warehouse fire orchestrated by a rival crime family.
He had personally buried her empty casket and completely destroyed the men he believed were responsible.
But Serena possessed the exact same hazel eyes, the same quiet grace, and now, her daughter carried that unmistakable toy.
He immediately picked up his secure phone and dialed the number of his top private investigator.
He coldly ordered the man to dig up every single piece of hidden information regarding his new housekeeper's past.
Meanwhile, Marco Bellini stood alone in the dark, sprawling gardens of the estate.
Marco pulled an encrypted burner phone from his tailored suit jacket and quickly typed a frantic message.
He had spent four long years convincing Damiano that the absolute love of his life was dead.
If Damiano ever discovered that Serena was actually Elena suffering from severe trauma-induced amnesia, Marco’s entire treacherous empire would instantly collapse.
Marco sent a highly classified message ordering an immediate, lethal hit on the private investigator Damiano had just hired.
He casually slipped the phone away and walked back into the grand mansion with a perfectly fake smile.
Marco entered the office to check on his old friend, pouring them both a glass of expensive whiskey.
Damiano did not accept the glass.
He slowly turned his computer monitor around so Marco could clearly see the live security feed from the front gate.

A black tactical van had just violently thrown a bloody, lifeless body directly onto the pristine driveway.
It was Damiano’s top investigator, with a terrifying note pinned to his chest warning the mafia boss to stop digging into the past.
