Chapter 5 - The Sins of the Father

Gideon stared at the little girl, completely paralyzed by her chilling confession.
He turned his attention back to the massive monitor, opening the first decrypted video file.
The video showed a sterile, white room filled with advanced medical equipment and rows of small beds.
It was a black-market laboratory designed to exploit child prodigies for their unique cognitive abilities.
Gideon felt physically sick as he watched scientists run cruel experiments on terrified children.
Then, the camera panned to show the man directing the horrific operation.
Gideon stumbled backward, knocking his expensive leather chair completely to the floor.
The man on the screen was Thomas Hail, Gideon's father, who had supposedly died in a plane crash a decade ago.
"That is the bad man," Ren whispered, pointing at the screen with a trembling finger.
Gideon’s entire world shattered as he realized his family’s wealth was built on the blood of innocent children.
He had spent his whole life trying to be a good man, totally unaware of the monster who had raised him.
"I am so sorry," Gideon choked out, tears of profound shame falling from his eyes.
He promised the girls that he would destroy the facility and everyone involved in it.
He began copying the files to a secure offshore server to send to the federal authorities.
Suddenly, the massive warehouse plunged into absolute darkness as the power was violently cut.
Red emergency lights flickered to life, casting terrifying shadows across the endless rows of servers.
A loud, metallic screech echoed through the building as the heavy steel loading doors were pried open.
"Hide under the desk," Gideon ordered the girls, pulling a hidden handgun from his waistband.
A tall silhouette walked confidently into the red light, surrounded by heavily armed mercenaries.

"Hello, little brother," the man said, his voice echoing perfectly in the empty warehouse.
Gideon stared in horror at Elias Hail, his older brother who was also supposed to be dead.
